Welcome to the
Unitarian Universalist Society of Mill Creek (UUSMC) Web Site. We hope that this site
will help you to get to know us and our values.

Located in Delaware's Pike Creek Valley near the border of Hockessin and
Newark, the UUSMC offers a liberal religious experience that encourages
spiritual growth through the exploration and discovery of the world around us.
Our membership is strong and growing and we are a welcoming congregation. We
care deeply about giving back to the community through our
Social Action committee; our
Religious Education department teaches our
youth to be independent thinkers; and our minister invites us to respond back to
her sermons.
Please visit us in person and see if Unitarian Universalism is right for you.
Our Mission
We are a liberal religious community which explores and celebrates life
through the spiritual, rational, and emotional in ourselves, each other, and
the wider world.
We are committed to living
the Unitarian Universalist
Principles in all our relationships and welcome everyone to join us
in celebration and service.

The UUSMC Monthly Newsletter
Upcoming Services
(Services begin at 10:30 AM)
July 25 – “A
Mindfulness Approach to Dealing with Difficult People" Wes Bowman; Though
Will Rogers said he never met a man he didn't like, I've never heard of anyone
else who could say that! We will look at Eastern Philosophy and Western
Psychology strategies for dealing with difficult relationships while attempting
to maintain equanimity.
August 1 – “Creating New Harmonies” Catherine Marie Charlton; Drawing
from her journey from engineering student to recording artist and touring
musician to now mom, gardener, & piano teacher, Catherine reflects on life's
changing passions. When is it time to give up or change a long-time dream? When
and how do we "re-harmonize" what we have always identified as our main
"melody"? Catherine will provide musical accompaniment to her reflections.
August 8 – “Old-Fashioned Hymn Sing” Clem Bowen; Come and sing some of
the old-time hymns and songs.
August 15 – “Good Grief – Embracing Change” Margaret McLaughlin; Nancy
Dean has retired and UUSMC is facing the opportunity to begin anew. Many of us
continue to deal with “termination emotions” that may block our abilities to
move forward, with enthusiasm, toward the future. You will be invited to
participate in a “memory ritual” that may help to prepare you for the road
ahead.
August 22 – “The Stories of Our Lives and Why We Tell Them” Linda Lucero;
Our stories hold the wisdom of our ancestors, the imagination of our child
selves, the dreams of our future, and the healing of our souls. It's in the
power of our stories that we find connection with each other, and it's in the
telling of our stories that we return again and again to find our true selves.
August 29 – “Change in the Workplace - A Professor's Perspective” Larry
Stomberg; As UUSMC faces its transitional time, we can also explore other
transitions in our lives, including the workplace. University professors face
personal transition with regularity, particularly in working with students who
are, by their nature, transitory.
September 5 – “Mill Creek: A Natural History” Stephen Petersen; Our
church is named after a geographic region, "Mill Creek Hundred," which in turn
takes its name from a geologic feature, a stream that runs from Southern Chester
County in Pennsylvania to the White Clay Creek in northern Delaware. By tracing
both the topographical path and the historical evolution of the creek, we can
peel back the layers of acculturation to find significance in the enduring
landscape we so transiently inhabit.
The texts of prior sermons are available in the
Archives.

financial support of our members and friends. The payroll, mortgage and
other costs to run the church total about $17,000 a month. Most members
make an Annual Pledge commitment and donate throughout the year. Pledge and any
other contributions can be made during our Sunday services, or you may mail a
check to the church. (Please write "Bookkeeper" on the lower left corner
of your envelope). You may e-mail your pledge commitment to
pledge@uusmc.org. Click
here to print a pledge card. Click

to read our Pledge Drive Letter. For questions about your current pledge
or making a donation, please send an e-mail to
bookkeeper@uusmc.org. Thank you
for your support.
